Terms of Service
Effective date: July 15, 2026 Last updated: August 11, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and RanMac LLC ("Beyond," "we," "us," or "our") governing your use of the Beyond digital legacy vault service (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What Beyond is — and is not
Beyond is a service that lets a person (an "Owner") store personal information, documents, and instructions in a private "vault" and have designated content released to designated recipients ("Beneficiaries") after the Owner's death has been verified through the process described in these Terms and our public materials.
Beyond is not a law firm, financial institution, estate planner, executor, or fiduciary, and does not provide legal, financial, tax, or estate-planning advice. Using Beyond is not a substitute for a valid will, trust, power of attorney, or other legal instrument. The Service is a tool to organize and transmit information and does not, by itself, transfer legal ownership of any asset, nor does it carry out probate or estate administration. You are responsible for ensuring your estate planning is legally valid; consult a qualified professional.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) and able to form a binding contract.
- You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.
- We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts as described in Section 12.
3. The verification and release process (important)
You understand and agree that:
- Release is conditional and delayed by design. No content is released instantly. The Service uses a deliberate, multi-step process that may include missed check-ins, grace periods, notifying your Trusted Contact, requesting confirmation from your Witnesses, an administrative review of a death certificate where applicable, and a mandatory holding period before any release.
- You must keep the Service functional. The process depends on information you provide and maintain — including a working check-in schedule, valid and responsive Witnesses, a Trusted Contact, and Beneficiaries with correct contact details. If this information is missing, outdated, or your designated people are unresponsive, release may be delayed, incomplete, or may not occur.
- A living Owner can always stop the process by re-authenticating.
- Human and third-party judgment is involved. Where a death certificate is reviewed, or a Beneficiary's identity is verified, outcomes depend on human review and third-party services and are not guaranteed to be error-free.
No guarantee of outcome. While we design the Service to be careful and reliable, we do not and cannot guarantee that content will be released, that it will be released at a particular time, or that it will be released only to intended persons. You accept the inherent risks of an automated, signal-based verification process, including the possibility of both premature release and failure to release.
4. Your content and responsibilities
- Your content is yours. You retain ownership of the content you store. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit it solely to operate the Service and carry out your instructions.
- You are responsible for your content, including its legality and accuracy, and for having the right to store and share it (for example, credentials or information about third parties).
- Prohibited uses. You may not use the Service to store or transmit unlawful content, to infringe others' rights, to store another person's credentials or data without authority to share them, or to violate any law. You may not attempt to breach the security of the Service, access data that is not yours, or misuse the verification process (for example, falsely reporting a death).
- Designated individuals. By adding Witnesses, Trusted Contacts, and Beneficiaries, you represent that you have a basis to provide their contact information and to involve them, and you authorize us to contact them as part of the Service.
5. Roles of Witnesses, Trusted Contacts, and Beneficiaries
- Witnesses are asked only to confirm or deny an Owner's death honestly. They receive no vault content. A single confirmation does not, by itself, release anything.
- Trusted Contacts may indicate that an Owner is alive. They receive no vault content.
- Beneficiaries receive only the content an Owner has specifically granted them, only after the verification process completes, subject to any release delay, and only after verifying their identity. Beneficiaries agree to provide accurate identity information and to use received content lawfully.
Acting dishonestly within these roles (for example, falsely confirming a death) may violate these Terms and applicable law.
6. Financial account linking
If you link a financial institution, you authorize us and our provider (Plaid) to access account metadata only (such as institution name, account type, masked account number, and a balance snapshot). We do not retain your banking credentials or ongoing access and do not move money. Linking is provided for convenience; the information is a point-in-time snapshot and may become outdated. You are responsible for verifying account details. Your use of the linking feature is also subject to Plaid's end-user agreement and privacy policy.
7. Fees
The Service is currently offered in a limited private preview, free of charge. If and when we introduce paid plans, we will present the pricing, billing, renewal, and refund terms clearly before any charge, and you will have the opportunity to review and accept them before subscribing. Because Beyond is a long-term service, if a paid plan later lapses we will provide reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data before any content is removed.
8. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers (including Supabase, Cloudflare, ZeptoMail/Zoho, and, where enabled, Plaid, Persona, and Twilio). Your use of features powered by these providers may be subject to their terms. We are not responsible for third-party services, and their availability may affect the Service.
9. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, and content (excluding your content), is owned by RanMac LLC and its licensors and is protected by law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, or create derivative works of the Service except as permitted by law.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT CONTENT WILL BE RELEASED OR WITHHELD AS INTENDED IN EVERY CASE. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, RanMac LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE — INCLUDING FROM THE PREMATURE RELEASE OF CONTENT, THE FAILURE TO RELEASE CONTENT, OR RELEASE TO AN UNINTENDED PERSON. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you.
12. Suspension and termination
- By you: you may stop using and delete your account at any time.
- By us: we may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, misuse the verification process, or where necessary to protect the Service or others, or to comply with law.
- Effect of termination: upon account deletion, we handle your data as described in the Privacy Policy. If an account is closed for non-payment or prolonged inactivity, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you first and allow you to export your data. You can download a complete copy of your data at any time from within the Service.
13. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may modify the Service or these Terms. For material changes to the Terms, we will provide notice as required by law and update the "Last updated" date. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
15. Miscellaneous
- If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
- These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
- Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
- You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a business transfer.
